Company Philosophy
At Backbreakers, we believe trust is built through experience, honest communication, and respect for the community we serve.
For over 15 years, we have provided moving and junk removal services rooted in real-world knowledge and sound judgment—not just digital tools or automated estimates. While technology can be helpful, we rely on the wisdom that comes from years in the field to plan jobs accurately and set clear expectations.
Every job begins with a real conversation. Each call is answered by a trusted team member who takes the time to understand the job and the customer’s needs. When necessary, we provide in-person quotes to ensure accuracy and transparency, so customers know what to expect and are never surprised.
We show up on time, handle belongings with care and dignity, and communicate clearly from start to finish. Whether moving a home, assisting a business, or supporting local contractors with junk removal and construction debris cleanup, we approach every job with professionalism and responsibility.
As a locally owned business, we take our role in the community seriously. We recycle as much material as possible and regularly donate usable items to organizations such as Good Cheer Thrift Store and Habitat for Humanity. Backbreakers recycles over 50% of all materials hauled, ensuring disposal is handled thoughtfully and responsibly.
Above all, we are committed to doing what is right—serving our neighbors with integrity, transparency, and care—because our reputation, our relationships, and our word matter.

Jeff Hansen, Founder and Owner
Jeff Hansen was born and raised on Whidbey Island and currently lives in Coupeville, where he and his wife are raising their children. Deeply rooted in the community, Jeff is actively involved in local life—coaching his kids’ sports, attending church, and building lasting relationships with neighbors and families he has known throughout his life.
In 2011, Jeff founded Backbreakers with a desire to serve the community that helped shape him, believing that honest work, integrity, and respect for others matter. As trust was earned and word spread, Backbreakers grew through referrals and became a household name known for dependability, care, and ethical service. For more than 15 years, Jeff has approached the business as a responsibility and a stewardship—committed to doing what is right, treating people with dignity, and honoring the work entrusted to him.
Jeff remains closely involved in the day-to-day operations of Backbreakers. He often answers customer phone calls personally and provides in-person quotes when needed, drawing on years of hands-on experience and sound judgment. He values clear communication, accurate expectations, and serving customers with care and honesty. Jeff is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands with the same principles that have guided Backbreakers from the beginning.
